New theme I will be exploring for my own personal self-promotion. This will go along side the creative block work (which is the portfolio side to my self promotional work) and one minus one equals one which has become the film side of what I do (though I have not worked out how to put films in to flash, and whether people would sit for ten minutes at a time to watch the short films I have created)) but regardless this is going to be forming the promotional material, it has taking me quite a while to find something that is striking enough for me to use, the creative block logo (which I am looking to update to match the new creative review logo (connotations etc etc)) is specifically for my personal magazine portfolios, but its not strong enough an identity on its own for self promotion.
However this is bright bold, a bit risqué and does not stereotype me (if you could describe what I look like from this logo I would be highly impressed, all the semiotics in the world would not give my description away from this piece of design lol). I wanted something that is me, but is not the obvious stereotypical thing some one from my perceived outlook would produce. I generally my utmost to create things that do not form the perceived 'oh he is one of those, I can tell' type of designers, so something like this has me slightly dare I say excited as I have hit upon something I have been looking for, for about 4 months, my personal identity.
Typefaces used, ariel and base 02. The design was created in illustrator CS.
This is being developed and I am sure I will put these developments on line shortly
the font base 02 comes from the website acid fonts [link] for a link to hopefuly the page with it on. This has a slection of more creative fonts, however i do use these other two websites for different fonts [link] & [link]
Funny I think typography is my weakest aspect of my designs, I dotn think it is creative enough, but thanks, I still have a lot to learn but i am gettign there
Er.. one other thing... rather than leave the white corners visible, take a screen print of your profile, and eyedrop the dA background colour. Use that, and it should blend in perfectly.
thanks dan I was looking at changing that actally as its been annoying me some what, I almost saved it as a gif as you can use transparincys, but I stick to jpg's on here.. as for taking a screen print, I might have a slight problem doing that, I have never worked out how to on a mac.
I supose I could look at the sorce code and get the numbers from there.
I remember the typeface I like, and the ones drilled in to us at university (includign those not to use if you can help it (helvetica buing the main one, I have never found a tutor yet that likes that font, nor have I ever found a need to use it).
But I really like the destressed feel to this font, it's dynamic and intresting with out being OTT.
