A Fully Fledged Graphic Designer

Mon Sep 25, 2006, 10:47 AM
Well today has been somewhat event full.

Attended the second stage interview at hyperama, and after 30 mins talking not one of the owners of the company she offered me the job.

No questions about my appearance (i.e. the long hair and lip ring as I thought there might be) just took me through the role that I need to do, the type of work she wants me to do and that I will put the effort in. I think what got me the job where my references in my portfolio magazine that gave her all that she wanted to hear.

So as of Monday, I now will be working full time as a graphic designer, I am really looking forward to it. The pay is not amazing but it’s a start, its only 5 days a week, 9 till 6 (use to work longer hours at university, and my co designer is a nice girl who has graduated this year, so will be interested in seeing her work. It good to have fresh input, and its very very unusual for a company to get two fresh designers in leading there design department, it makes a really refreshing change in fact. The person that I will be taking jobs from, whom I had the interview today is looking to redevelop the company’s image, so its really nice to feel that I can be a part of that.

So I have until Monday to buy some smart casual cloths, do one or two jobs here there and ever where, and then a life of work awaits me… and I am looking forward to it…

Fuckin con grats dude!! I know how you feel about apearance, I work for the Dept of veterans affairs and have long(well, semi-long) hair and I was worried about that. but it helps being an Army vet, lol. Again, congrats brother!! \m/

Thank you kindly, it can be a bit of a worry, but they never ever even mentioned it. I have been turned down for a job because of my lip ring, it was developing photographs and digital editing... all because customers would be put off... what a load of rubbish, I spent 6 months as a children’s portrait photographer, and rather than put people off it created interest, to much in some cases as I had to dissuade kids from wanting one, but all in all there seems to be no problem.

Ok I might end up looking like a member of Akercocke, but I don’t find it a bad thing, rather like the suit look.

Anyhow thanks for the congrats, much appreciated, its good to see that not everybody judges people on none conventions.

It's always a uphill climb dude, you know WE especially have to work twice as hard as anybody else because we don't "fit in". But we always do overcome!! And most of our kind don't know what it takes. I look at it this way,I have infiltrated their ranks by playing on their pre-dispositions. I am inside, therefore if need be,I can strike and Black Metal will be my Anthem!! We wikll be at the forefront because of our struggles, not to fit in, but to show that we are a force to be reckoned with! Hails Brother!!

Yes i have found it can be a uphill climb because of my exsternal apperance, but to a degree I think this has helped fromed my chartor to what it is now.

What does not defeat you makes you stronger, and I am still going.
